HAVE YOU TRIED UPCYCLING WITH DECOUPAGE?

Transform anything with some simple Decoupage

I watched this brilliant Decoupage transformation online, this demonstration shows how simple this craft can be.

Decoupage is a fun and creative craft that involves decorating objects by adhering paper cut-outs onto surfaces and then sealing them with a varnish or glue.

Here's a simple guide to trying decoupage for the first time:

Gather Your Materials: Collect the necessary supplies, including paper cut-outs (such as from magazines, napkins, wrapping paper or printed designs), an object to decorate (like a box, frame, chest of drawers, table or tray), decoupage glue or Mod Podge, a brush or sponge applicator, and varnish (optional). Use chalk paint for a quick and easy to apply finish.

Prepare Your Surface: Ensure your chosen object is clean and dry. If needed, sand it lightly to create a smooth surface for better adhesion.

Select Your Design: Choose the paper cut-outs you want to use. You can experiment with different patterns, images, or colours to create a unique look.

Arrange Your Cut-outs: Arrange your cut-outs on the surface to plan out your design. Play around with different placements until you're satisfied with how it looks.

Apply Glue: Using a brush or sponge applicator, apply a thin layer of decoupage glue to the back of each cut-out and press it onto the surface. Smooth out any wrinkles or air bubbles.

Layer and Seal: Continue layering your cut-outs, overlapping them slightly if desired. Once you've placed all your cut-outs, apply another coat of decoupage glue over the entire surface to seal the design. Allow it to dry completely.

Optional Varnish: If you want added protection and a glossy finish, you can apply a coat of varnish over the dried decoupage. Let it dry thoroughly before using or displaying your finished piece.

Enjoy Your Creation: Once everything is dry and sealed, your decoupage project is complete! Display it proudly or give it as a thoughtful handmade gift.

Remember, decoupage is all about creativity and experimentation, so don't be afraid to try different techniques and materials to achieve the look you want. Have fun and enjoy the process!
